Plan to stay for the night and have some fun. Go to bear lake, see what you can catch, water ski, or maybe just sit down to have a quiet romantic evening. Most Northeastern Corner of Utah
Location! Location! Location!
Rich County is in the very top right corner of Utah. It is in the Northeast corner of our great state and it is shaped like a rectangle except that the West and South sides are a jagged line. Rich County is 18 miles wide and 56 miles long. It is not very big but you can have lots of fun there. It is not by any big cities and is mostly a farming and ranching area. It is also a recreation area for people who like to go to Bear Lake.

Rich County is special because Bear Lake is within its boundaries. There are six to seven ghost towns around the county. If you go down the Limber Pine Trail you will come across a 2,560 year old limber pine tree. (Hard to believe I know but true) In winter it gets to be -40 degrees below zero in some places. (I know! That's cold! Brrrr!) The luscious Bear Lake Raspberries are made into shakes that taste so good you will want more, as in, its addicting. They have one of the oldest tabernacles in Utah. (a relative of the oldest tree maybe?!)

In Rich County if you don't have a car, get ready to hitch-hike because there are no UTA busses or trax to help you get where you need to go. If you don't have a car, or a horse, you had better get a bike. You can always drive on the beautiful scenic byways or the highways. (If you have a car, that is! If you don't, get ready to go the long way and walk...hard!!!)

The environment is very important in Rich County. Bear Lake, located in Rich County, gives people jobs when visitors come to spend time on the water. The "Rich"soil (just a play on words) helps the farming and ranching in the area. The people depend on the land for jobs and fun. People that use the water from Bear Lake and people that want to have fun in the water don't agree on how the water in Bear Lake should be used. When there is a drought the water in the lake goes down alot because people are using it as a water source. This makes people who want to use their boats and water ske mad. There are lots of new things being built which is changing the environment. People in Rich County have to pay alot of attention to the changes they make because it can affect their future.

It can get to -40 degrees below zero in some places. The coldest temperature ever recorded in Utah happened in Rich County in 1899 when the temperature was -50 degrees below zero. The main language spoken is English. The main religion is Mormon. There is not much cultural diversity. The main landscape is basin like with mountain areas with high elevations. The soil is rich in nutrients and great for growing crops. Rich County is not very big. It is only 18 miles wide and 56 miles long.
